Sleep Apnea Laboratory

Head of the Department
Litvin Alexander, Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor

The sleep laboratory was created on the basis of the Hypertension Department and has existed since 1999.

Currently, we conduct a full range of sleep-disordered breathing diagnostics in outpatient and hospital settings in a two specialized comfortable single wards.

The sleep laboratory is customized with the latest equipment that meets international standards:

  • computer pulse oximeters (PulseOx 7500, SPO medical, Israel)
  • respiratory monitors (Inkart, Russia, SOMNOcheck micro, SOMNOcheck cardio, Wienmann, Germany)
  • polysomnographic systems Grass Technologies (USA) that provides real-time recording in conjunction with a video surveillance system
  • CPAP, APAP and BiPAP devices.

PAP devices - Loweinstein (Germany), ResMed (Australia), ResSmart (China), Sefam (France), BMC (China).

Sleep Laboratory, together with various departments of the Institute of Clinical Cardiology, is engaged in clinical and scientific work. In-depth studies of patients with sleep-breathing disorders and various cardiological and endocrine pathologies: arterial hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac rhythm and conduction disturbances, ischemic heart disease, chronic heart failure, diabetes, obesity, erectile dysfunction, metabolic syndrome

Main scientific research interests

  • Optimization of diagnostic approaches to verify the presence and severity of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) in cardiac patients in a hospital setting and during outpatient’s follow-up.
  • Development of algorithms for the prescription and long-term follow-up of PAP- therapy.
  • Development of diagnostic algorithms for identification and treatment of patients with refractory arterial hypertension and OSAS.
  • Development of diagnostic algorithms for identification and treatment of patients with OSAS and arrhythmias.
  • Development of diagnostic algorithms for PAP-therapy in patients after balloon angioplasty of pulmonary arteries.
