Head of the Department
Karpov Yuri Aleksandrovich, MD, PhD, Professor

Main research areas

• Mechanisms of vascular wall damage at the early stage of atherosclerosis development, important for the development of new effective methods of cardiovascular diseases prevention and treatment

• Evaluation of the functional state of the coronary and peripheral arteries endothelium, treatment of the revealed disorders

• Prognostic role of changes in the vasomotor function of the of the coronary and peripheral arteries endothelium and carotid ultrastructure in patients with coronary artery disease and various variants of its course in the development of cardiovascular complications

• Development of management of patients before and after percutaneous coronary interventions

• Effect of a stent type on long-term prognosis and its relation to post-intervention therapy

• Myocardial and coronary artery perfusion using volumetric multispiral computed tomography and assessment of the impact of pharmacological preconditioning on the outcomes of percutaneous coronary interventions in patients with stable coronary artery disease

• Development of new methods of diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic lower limb ischemia of atherosclerotic origin

• Influence of the features and degree of development of collateral blood flow and long-term prognosis in patients with coronary artery disease. Relationship of genetic polymorphisms of proangiogenic factors on the severity of collateral blood flow in patients with coronary artery disease and chronic ischemia of the lower extremities

The most significant results of recent studies

• Features of cardiovascular pathology in rheumatoid arthritis and other systemic diseases were studied. Developed an algorithm for non-invasive diagnosis of coronary artery disease in rheumatoid arthritis. Extensive experience in invasive treatment of coronary artery disease in patients with systemic diseases who are on various Standard-of-Care (SoC) therapy of the underlying disease

• Together with the Department of radionuclide diagnostic methods we developed a method for diagnosing myocardial ischemia in patients with Cardiac syndrome X (Microvascular angina), based on the use of single-photon emission computed tomography with 99mts-MIBI in combination with a pharmacological test with adenosine triphosphate (patent No. 2502461)

• It was shown that long-term follow-up of patients, who had previously assessed the structural and functional state of the coronary and peripheral arteries, allows to determine the prognostic value of endothelial dysfunction, stiffness, elasticity and vascular microstructure in the development of cardiovascular complications compared with the prognostic value of traditional risk factors for atherosclerosis

• Developed method of optimization of antianginal therapy based on the condition of microcirculation (patent No. 2571707)

• Correlation of hospitalizations for ACS with atmospheric parameters and heat waves in different patients grouped by sex and age in the Moscow region was studied, the most adverse weather conditions were revealed. According to prospective observation, heat waves and cold season (November-March) were the most unfavorable periods for patients with stable CAD. The method of complex remote monitoring of patients with CAD in different weather conditions is proposed

• The correlation of the initial state of collateral blood flow with the peculiarities of the clinical course of the disease and long-term prognosis in patients with coronary artery disease after conservative treatment, PCI and coronary artery bypass grafting within a five-year follow-up was investigated
